A growing number of Rangers fans, after the 1-1 draw with Hamilton, have nailed their colours to the mast when it comes to Bongani Zungu, and they aren’t suggesting that Ross Wilson should be rushing to get a permanent deal tied up as soon as possible.

With this in mind, if we aren’t going to sign Zungu and with the very real possibility that Glen Kamara will be sold in the summer, we will face a very real issue in the middle of the park next season.

Ryan Jack can’t play 60 games a season, few players can but his knee just won’t allow it, even if he doesn’t have any flare ups during the season and Steven Davis shouldn’t be expected to play every game, he could end up being player of the year but we should plan for him not being here – every season could be his last.

There have been several names that pop up more often that others, John Lundstram and Kenny McLean the most frequent, Allan Campbell occasionally, but we need to identify someone similar to what the Northern Ireland skipper offers – a midfielder who offers defensive protection whilst being able to split open the opposition with his passing – Alessandro Pirlo would be nice, but he’s busy.

Who would you sign?

Nnamdi Ofoborh has been signed already for next season but he looks more like a potential replacement for Kamara in the long-term, Stephen Kelly will return from Ross County but might not quite be ready, we just have to hope that Ross Wilson has identified an alternative to Zungu to replace Davis, unless the recruitment and management team has seen something that the fans haven’t.
