We have seen from the January transfer window that Rangers will be looking to take full advantage of the pre-contract and free transfer market when looking to add bodies for next season – unless, of course, they receive significant bids for their own players to bolster the bank balance.

One man who will soon be available and knows all about what is required to be a success at Ibrox is Martyn Waghorn and a recent poll of Rangers fans saw 61% of them – from 666 votes – agree that the Derby County forward is worth a punt.

Vital Rangers identified the former Gers striker – valued at £2.7million – as a potential target to support the forward line if the likes of Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos aren’t around next season, he wouldn’t be a regular starter but he could certainly be trusted to give the others a rest from time-to-time.

He may feel like he has unfinished business and has spoken before about his disappointment with how his time at Rangers came to an end and suffering with depression, a player that was on form ended up in a cycle of injuries or playing out of his preferred position to make way for others and never re-captured his scoring touch to the same level.

It didn’t help that the team in general was as shambles when it got promoted back into the Premiership and it would be interesting to see how Waghorn fitted into a side with more creativity in midfield and more solidity in defence – if he did come back, at least he would have the fans’ backing, well, 61% of them anyway.
