Rangers fans could be in for a treat when Nnamdi Ofoborh officially signs, according to a former teammate who has also played with Ryan Jack in his time at Aberdeen.

Jack Grimmer played with the Bournemouth midfielder in his time on loan at Wycombe Wanderers where he helped them to get promoted to the Championship and he has given some words of encouragement for those Gers fans who may be unsure as to what they are getting, as reported by The Daily Record.

“Rangers have some great central midfielders at the club already. Going into that group, I can only see Nnamdi developing in the way a lot of us know he can. Because he’s got so much potential. That’s why a club of the stature of Rangers were keen.

“I’m sure for Nnamdi it will be a great thing having Jacko there. I can see that working well. Jacko came through at Aberdeen at a young age and had pressure on him being captain.

“He went to Rangers at a relatively young age too and I think he will be a good voice for Nnamdi to listen to. So will Steven Davis who has been there and done it and had a great career. That’s someone to learn from.

“In terms of a comparison for Rangers fans, Glen Kamara can drift and pass and get around the pitch, he has that calmness.

“Nnamdi is like that. He can glide past people and also find that zipped pass, he’s got a lot of range. He could be a shrewd signing. He’s got a great physical presence because he’s a good size and build.

“He’s got an engine and a robustness to get around and make tackles when needed. But he brought us calmness on the ball. We had plenty of pitbull, ratter-type midfielders.

“He helped by putting his foot on the ball and making the pass that got the team playing.”

There has been a definite shift in the type of players that we are signing, particularly for midfield roles, you only have to look at the last three – Joe Aribo, Bongani Zungu and now Ofoborh to see what we are looking for, technical ability but also able to handle the physical side of the game.

If Grimmer is right and the Nigerian youth cap is anything near to the level of Glen Kamara then we have won a watch, especially on a pre-contract agreement, our midfield has a lot of responsibility and being good defensively isn’t enough – as we have seen from the departure of Ross McCrorie – if Ofoborh is truly capable of both sides of the game then we are in for a treat.
