Rangers look to be going down the two for the price of one approach in their attempts to replace Calvin Bassey after signing Ben Davies to cover centrally and with now being linked with a hot prospect for the left-back slot.

Ridvan Yilmaz is a Turkey international and was close to joining Eintracht Frankfurt but negotations broke down around the fee which is said to be around the €6million mark.

Turkish journalist, Gokmen Ozcan, broke the news this morning on Twitter and revealed that we have been in negotiations for some time:

“Rangers have been meeting with Beşiktaş for 10 days for Rıdvan Yılmaz. Asking the details of the broken agreement with Frankfurt, the Scots are preparing an offer. Kartal wants 6 million € + a share of the next transfer directly. Rangers in preparation for a player sale can afford this price.”

Analyist for The Rangers Review and This is Ibrox, Patrick Caskie, specialises in the Turkish Super Lig and is hugely excited about the prospect of luring such a promising player:

“This would be perfect, and a move I would have said was completely unrealistic if these links hadn’t emerged. I’ve watched a lot of Ridvan over the past two seasons and have always been impressed. Would be an ambitious and incredible way to replace Bassey.”

With Borna Barisic looking really sharp in pre-season, signing a development player to rotate with him was always going to be the most likely option even if we have to spend a decent amount to sign them and it looks as though Yilmaz is the man being targeted by Ross Wilson.

The 21-year old possesses the necessary attacking skills for our system but is also competent at the other end of the park, a Rangers full-back has to be able to do both jobs or they are soon found out, Bassey learned this the hard way and came out the other side can Yilmaz step into his sizeable boots?
