Tell me you don’t understand how the transfer market and football in general works without telling me you don’t know how it works.
As with every Celtic fan, John, a caller to Clyde Superscoreboard, his favourite topic of conversation is of course Rangers so, with Calvin Bassey potentially becoming a Scottish transfer record if his current trajectory goes to plan, he had to phone in and let everyone know that Ajax’s scouts, manager and director of football were all wrong to be splashing out on the Nigerian international.

A clearly exasperated John can’t get his head around the fact that a player who was in the Europa League team of the year could possibly attract such a high bid and took to the airwaves to vent his frustration:
“Hugh (Keevins), do you think he’s worth £20million?
“Hugh, who made the mistake up in Ross County to give away the goal? Who made the mistake against Motherwell on the half-way line when they scored? The guys a liability! He’s never worth £20m, never worth £20m.”
And when asked by Keevins, “How much do you think he’s worth John?”, the answer really shouldn’t have been a surprise.
“5.”
And there we have it. Calvin Bassey is only worth £5m so, Ross Wilson better be on the phone to apologise to his opposite number and give them them a sizeable refund.
Even if Bassey isn’t worth £20m plus – which he clearly is – why is John so bothered? I’ll tell you why.
They still believe that “Rangers are skint” but that doesn’t really wash when we’ve made record breaking revenues, made a European final and broken our transfer record twice in six-months as well as adding over £10m from Joe Aribo’s departure and from Steven Gerrard’s compensation due to his move to Aston Villa – they simply can’t handle that we are a well run club now.
Well, I’ve got news for them, get used to it.
