This weekend will see Rangers in action twice following confirmation from the manager that a game against Queen’s Park has been arranged for Sunday.

In his reaction to the West Ham game last night, Giovanni van Bronckhorst added some detail about the fixture against Owen Coyle’s Championship team, in what is likely to be the final preparation ahead of the Premiership opener at Livingston next Saturday.

It means that the game against Spurs this Saturday at Ibrox could be used to play as close to a full strength team as possible, with limited subs used, given that the clash with Queen’s Park will take place the following day. A chance for ‘two teams’ to be fielded by Gio but we won’t have long to wait to find out.

As reported on the club’s official website, the manager stated on the upcoming schedule:

“They’re a quality side, they play Champions League next season and are a strong side with quality international players. It’s a good test for us and a good challenge to play against Tottenham before we get into the league next week.”

“We have a game against Queen’s Park on Sunday (at Auchenhowie), so my players can get more minutes before we start.”

A similar situation was played out last year in the form of the Ibrox double header against Brighton and Real Madrid.

At that point, Steven Gerrard utilised the fixtures to give action to players throughout the squad which will happen again this time around. For some it will be a case of fine tuning ahead of the start to the competitive season, whilst for others it will be a last chance in the shop window with some exits still likely for players on the fringes.
