A rumour emerged over the last couple of weeks that Auxerre were interested in taking Fashion Sakala on loan to Ligue 1, a story that disappeared as quickly as it had emerged, however, a new source has made a similar claim and it has come from a familiar face.

Former Gers stopper Lionel Charbonnier posted on his Twitter page that he had heard about the potential move but there is every chance that he has only juts caught wind of the original rumour because, in response to questions from fans, he confessed that he doesn’t have any more information than what is already out there.

What it has done though is raise the question about whether or not Sakala will get much game time this season having been used mainly as an impact or rotation player last season and with the additions of Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo.

There are some Rangers fans that will never take to the Zambian international, they prefer to highlight his occasional clumsiness and indecision as the reason why he will never make it at the club rather than accept that his return of 12 goals and 7 assists from 15 starts – 23 games in terms of minute played – is more than decent.

With two goals and four assists after the split, he showed that he can more than contribute against the better sides in the league too so it’s easy to see why other teams might appreciate him even if elements of our own support don’t.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed after the Blackpool game that he was missing purely because of a minor knock and should be back in action soon putting to bed the rumours of a move away after just one season – for now at least.
