If you think that the current mood around Rangers is toxic just now, imagine what it will be like if more points are dropped against Hearts and St Mirren over the coming days.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s job isn’t quite untenable given the squad that he has to work with at present but, the performance against Aberdeen suggests that there is enough there that we shouldn’t be dropping points against Livingston and St Johnstone.

Writing for The Athletic, Jordan Campbell, has confirmed that “nothing has changed” in terms of the managerial position or Gio’s focus, however, anything but positive results this week will surely see the board take action:

“It led to mass calls on social media for Van Bronckhorst to be sacked, but it is business as usual before Wednesday night, when Hearts will visit Ibrox.

“Nothing has changed in terms of his position and no ultimatums have been made to Van Bronckhorst yet. The board would need to think more seriously about making a change in the short term.

“There are two games remaining before the league stops for the World Cup break, the other being against St Mirren, and if he wins both it may be enough to reset the situation and reduce the nightmare injury pile-up.”

There will be absolute carnage if Rangers don’t beat Hearts and St Mirren before the break. There are no more excuses left. Part of the problem has been that almost everyone connected with the club just wanted to get to the break still in touch with Celtic because of how we have been playing and the players who are missing.

Van Bronckhorst has been in the game a long time and will be fully aware of his current plight, I’d love to know how much he would pay for two wins, two decent performances and the chance to reset during the break, whether or not he gets it, we’ll soon find out.
