The only talking point in Scottish football right now is the future of Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, former players, pundits and fans all discussing whether or not he should be given the chance to turn around what looks like an, almost, hopeless situation.

There are decent managers available in Sean Dyche, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Kjetil Knutsen, each with their own styles, however, speaking on PLZ Soccer, former Hibs striker Tam McManus believes there is a reason why the Gers board hasn’t acted:

“I think they should get rid of them now.

“But I don’t think they will. I don’t think they can afford to get rid of him and his staff.

“I think they will see it out till the break and strengthen again in January and have a run until the end of the season.

“There’s not really any alternatives out there. I seen Sean Dyche getting mentioned and even Ralph Hasenhüttl.

“Those guys aren’t going to go near Rangers, they will get another job in England or at the top end of the Championship.”

Bizarley, McManus goes on to say that we could bring Michael Beale back which would probably involve paying a sizeable compensation fee to QPR, he also suggests that Gio will be given funds in January to spend. Make your mind up Tam, are we skint or not?

And why wouldn’t Dyche or Hasenhuttl take the Rangers job? Steven Gerrard did when he had offers from down south and even as a rookie manager his profile is considerably higher. There is also the prospect of winning trophies and competing in Europe.

McManus is letting his own allegiances cloud his judgement when it comes to forming an opinion on our current plight – he’s even managed to confuse himself, however, given some of his previous claims, I don’t think that’s too difficult a task.
