It seemed inevitable that there would be an announcement about the future of Giovanni van Bronckhorst after the appalling display against St Johnstone, and yet, the only Ross Wilson appointment who has been sacked is Ralf Hasenhuttl at Southampton.

The Rangers board remains quiet though which suggests that the Dutchman is being given until the World Cup, at least.

Injuries have gone against him but we showed against Aberdeen that we still have enough to beat Premiership sides, that Rangers had 17 shots in the first-half alone in Perth without scoring suggests that we are desperately short of a cutting edge. Our wingers’ continued lack of goal scoring threat remains a concern.

Speaking on his Talksport show this morning, Jim White revealed that he has been in contact with a “source” at Ibrox about the future of Van Bronckhorst amid continued speculation, via The Daily Express:

“We understand that there are no crisis talks planned between the Rangers board and Gio van Bronckhorst.

“A Rangers source has told us that they speak every day and nothing will change in that regard.”

The defeat to St Johnstone might have been his first against a domestic side other than Celtic but a string of heavy defeats in the Champions League as well as another 4-0 loss at Parkhead means that he is a man under increasing pressure with every sub-par performance, never mind result.

The upcoming AGM was always going to be a raucous affair but, if Gio is still in charge, there will be an awful lot of explaining to do.
