Rangers have conceded the first goal in the last three domestic games and have also dropped points in two of them despite having played twice at Ibrox in this time, it’s safe to say that we are far from firing on all cylinders.

A two-point gap at the top of the table with a massive injury list looked as though we would be heading into the World Cup break with renewed confidence for when key players return on the other side, however, after losing to St Johnstone, the calls for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s head are growing louder by the day.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Kenny Miller – understandably as a former teammate – is not yet ready to call for Gio to be sacked, however, he is fully aware that something needs to change:

“If Rangers continue to play this way they won’t win the league. You can forget about it because, they’re not doing enough in an attacking sense to break these teams down and they’re conceding goals, that being said, there are a lot of injuries to key players as well.

“I think this break is absolutely crucial.

“There needs to be some serious thought into that question (the future of Van Bronckhorst) and we’ve talked about what I think is missing, but there is something not right at the moment, there needs to be improvements.”

Miller is right, players returning from injury will help but there are clearly issues with the squad. Whether the Champions League hammerings have had more of an effect on confidence than they are letting on remains to be seen but our first-half dominance on Sunday never looked like it was going to end in anything other than three points for Rangers.

The hope that we would get to the break still in touch has evaporated and, for all that it is still early doors, many can’t see an improvement coming unless there is a managerial change – something that doesn’t look like it is coming any time soon.
