Every Rangers fan knows why we lost the league last season; we conceded more goals and we scored fewer, pretty simple maths that, in a season of small margins, left to a four point gap at the top of the table.

The good news, is that Ross Wilson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst appear to have addressed these issues with our summer transfer business by signing more attacking players who like nothing better than to have a shot at goal.

The midfield that started against Blackpool – Glen Kamara, John Lundstram and Ryan Jack – is a competent one in that you can trust it to work hard out of possession and keep it’s shape, however, it isn’t one that screams creativity, fine for Europe where possession might be not be as dominant but not for the Scottish Premiership when teams invariably sit with 11 men behind the ball.

What the signings of Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo might do is see even the likes of Ryan Kent face a fight on his hands to guarantee his starting position most weeks. There is no doubting his quality or ability to make chances, however, as we saw on Saturday, he doesn’t have the natural desire to get into the box and score goals. When James Tavernier or Matondo were putting decent balls into the danger area, Kent was usually found about ten yards outside.

In Fashion Sakala and Matondo, we have two wide players who love nothing better than getting into the box either of their own creation or looking to get on the end of chances, if Kent doesn’t want to try and score more goals, we now have plenty of others who do.
