Some transfer rumours are pretty easy to put to bed, whether we want to or not.

Take Xavi Simons, for example, we’d all love him but, realistically, let’s be honest, we have absolutely no chance of signing one of the hottest Under-21 players on the continent – it doesn’t stop us dreaming though.

On a lesser scale, when we were linked with Wesley Hoedt – who has bounced from the Premier League to Serie A and is now at Anderlecht – it seemed a bit far fetched given some of the fees that had been paid for him, the connection coming from Ross Wilson’s association with Southampton, his involvement in the Dutch international’s transfer as well as the appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Hoedt has confirmed that he won’t be heading to Glasgow anytime soon in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad:

“Together with my agent, I laughed about that message in the English media.

“The sports manager of Southampton is now in Glasgow, but he’s not going to get me, you know. Moreover, I’m doing well at Anderlecht.

“In time, I want to play Champions League here, and I’m close to the Netherlands.”

I’m not sure playing for Anderlecht in the Jupiler Pro League is at a significantly higher level than playing for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, however, I don’t think he means to be disrespectful more that the accuracy of the rumour is way off.

From which country does Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist come from?

With John Souttar signed and Danilho Doekhi potentially on the way we don’t need a centre-half, certainly not one that would cost a fortune and rather stay in Belgium that is.
