Souttar signs, welcome to The People

|

John Souttar will become a Rangers player on the 1st of June 2022 – unless a fee is negotiated for his immediate release form Hearts before the end of the January window.

The 25-year old Scotland international has long been a target for the Light Blues and was seriously considered as an option to partner Connor Goldson before Filip Helander arrived at the club, the irony being that he could well be the player who replaces the vice-captain.

Souttar has signed a contract which means Rangers will have one of the country’s best defenders for his peak years and potentially beyond, hopefully, his injury troubles are behind him and he can now go on to enjoy a full and successful career.

For all that Souttar’s qualities as a centre-half are what will have first attracted Mark Allen and Steven Gerrard then Ross Wilson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, that he captained the third biggest club in Scotland at such a young age demonstrates that he has the sort of character and leadership skills needed to be a Rangers player, with his family being fans of the club it ensures that he will be fully aware of the demands of the support, if he didn’t know already.

It’s a quality signing, a homegrown international who has the potential to develop even further and he is a player who wants to be at our club, that we have been able to get someone of Souttar’s calibre without a fee is a great bit of business especially with the temptation he would have had to go down south.

Welcome to The People John.
