McCann lauds “dynamite” Gers star as new boy continues to make good impression

|

One thing with Rangers recruitment since Ross Wilson arrived at the club is that it has had a purpose, players have been bought for specific roles and to fit the system and style of play that Steven Gerrard wants to produce.

There were a few murmurings when Scott Wright arrived in January from Aberdeen but early impressions are good and speaking on Rangers TV, former Gers wide man Neil McCann feels that he will only get better:

“You come to a club like this and with the players around you, you shouldn’t fail to improve. That’s with respect to Aberdeen, because their players are good but when you come here, you are coming to a step up.

“What you have to have is a bravery to do things at the sharp end of the pitch when the fans finally do get back because they expect their wide players to make things happen.

“He certainly has the ability.

“One of the words that you didn’t use to describe him there was speed. Speed is dynamite to have in your game.

“He actually frustrated me because he went down the side and Defoe made a run, I’m thinking just go and bend it in but he did a little back-heel thing to throw the full-back. He didn’t need to because half a yard was there.

“He’s more dynamic than Hagi. The Romanian has a better all round game in the 10 position because he can see little passes and he’s really strong on both sides.

“Scott Wright brings that speed and dynamism to the game so when you look at Kent, if he’s not performing then he’s a really good substitute to put in there or put pressure on Kent to start the game.”

With Rangers dominating, the last thing Dundee United defenders would have wanted to see is a player with the pace of Wright coming on to replace Ianis Hagi – when the game became more open he was a constant threat and showed that he is already beginning to build an understanding with the players around him.

No

He may be seen by some as a back-up to Ryan Kent but, in time, Wright could very much become a threat to be relied upon in his own right – so to speak – especially if he continues to develop at his current rate and listens to the advice from one of the finest wide men to ever don the famous Light Blue shirt.
