The curious case of Juan Alegria got just a little bit more curious this week.

After speculation before the transfer window from the player himself that a move to Rangers was all but done, there is, as yet, no sign of the Colombian youth cap at Auchenhowie. That Steven Gerrard also confirmed the club’s interest in the player shows just how close the deal was to being completed given the secrecy that surrounds our current recruitment.

“It’s slightly different. We are well aware of the player and his talent. We are always looking to recruit right through the club.

“This is something the academy has had a closer eye on than myself but we are very much aware of the boy. There is something in that one but there is nothing to report on it as of yet.”

And we all got more than a bit excited when the player’s dad said late in 2020:

“In this moment, we are 90 per cent sure that Rangers will be the next team for Juan.”

And yet, still no confirmation of the move.

This week, to further fan the flames, the 18-year old shared a snap on his Instagram account of him watching Rangers 4-3 win over Royal Antwerp in the Europa League, as reported by Rangers News, now, I’m not usually one for putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5 but we all know how footballers and social media works nowadays – that’s how you find out transfer stories, not the newspapers.

Alegria must’ve been inspired by what he watched in mid-week, coming off the bench to score for FC Honka against IFK Mariehamn in his third appearance of the season, coincidently, his side have only one one of their first three games, the one he started, against none other than Alfredo Morelos’s old side – it’s a sign, I tell you.
