In Ross Wilson we trust.

More than a few eyebrows were raised when Rangers completed the signing of Scott Wright and then wrote off a chunk of Ross McCrorie’s transfer fee that was due from Aberdeen to get him through the door early in the January transfer window but it is already looking like money well spent.

In his first two appearances, albeit a small sample size, the former Aberdeen forward has shown similar traits to that of Ryan Kent and instantly looks a better player than the one that has been held back by Derek McInnes over the last few years.

Wright must be loving playing with players who will fire the ball into his feet rather than having to constantly watch it being launched over his head and doing shuttles between defence and attack.

He seems to have quickly bought into the team ethic and isn’t shy at tracking back or looking to close defenders down and win the ball himself to turnover possession, something that Kent on the opposite side excels at.

Before the game I thought that – given the way Kilmarnock play – that Wright might get a game from the start but we will have to wait a little while longer and, with Alfredo Morelos set to return to league action next week, it could be a good opportunity to rest either Ianis Hagi or Ryan Kent, particularly with the return of the Europa League.

We’ve managed to strengthen the squad and save money at the same time by getting Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker off the books and in the shop window, hopefully Wright will go on to make more of a contribution than the two who often flattered to deceive.
