Rangers and Ross Wilson will be sweating over the next 24 hours or so, hoping that Russell Martin doesn’t block Morgan Whittaker’s chances of a move to Rangers by playing him this weekend.

With two bids already rejected, the Light Blues are clearly interested in the 22-year old and a report in Football Insider has claimed that we are intent on landing the England youth international:

“The Glasgow giants are readying a third bid for Swansea City’s Whittaker after their second offer of £1.5million, first revealed by this site on Tuesday morning (17 January), was rejected.

“The club’s plan is also to complete a deal for Whittaker before the window shuts, after learning the forward is keen to make the move to Ibrox this month.”

All the indications are that Whittaker wants to move to Rangers so it would be a surprise if Swansea do give him game time seeing as it would end any chance of a January transfer, this, as well as the bids already made, suggest that they are purely trying to hurry the deal up so that they can sign someone themselves.

It doesn’t look like any transfers will be completed ahead of our Scottish Cup tie with St Johnstone – after Michael Beale suggested that we could see new faces last week – but it is a lot more promising than it was before we took on Aberdeen in the league cup.

We are agonisingly close on a few deals that will see our squad refreshed, upgraded and ready for next season. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
