Rangers fans transfer window has gone from one of anticipation to one of frustration, now though, anger is probably the overriding emotion.

With anything between 2-4 new signings expected, news of a bid for Morgan Whittaker of Swansea City seemed to suggest that we were finally moving in the right direction, however, with Russell Martin revealing that our bid had been rejected – Michael Beale claimed to be oblivious to an offer from Rangers – it felt like we were back at square one.

To make things worse for Beale and Ross Wilson, Sky Sports have reported that Rangers bid is “miles off” what the Championship side are looking for and that Whittaker could well feature for them at the weekend.

Whittaker is under contract until 2025 so we will have to pay a decent transfer fee, he is only 22-years old and has just enjoyed a very productive loan spell in League 1, so it’s not a surprise that he has been recalled.

The problem we have now is that if we can’t agree a fee by the weekend and Whittaker plays for Swansea, he will be ineligible to play for another team until next season due to a FIFA regulation, unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there is dispensation for loan spells either.

If the England youth international has been identified as a key target to take us forward then we have to pay for him, we have seen what happens when we accept second best. It is understandable to go in with a low offer initially but our board needs to stop tying our sporting director and manager’s hands behind their backs when they are trying to build a successful side.

Hopefully, Swansea are calling our bluff and looking to speed things up, if not, it looks like we will be shopping elsewhere.

Who is he anyway ? Move on , there are plenty of alternatives out there . I`m sure if the boy wants this move he`ll not be too keen on playing for Swansea on Saturday and if he does then we can always wait to the summer.
