If Giovanni van Bronckhorst is being considered as α serious contender to replace under-fire Brendan Rodgers as Leicester City manager should the Midlands club decide to do what appears to be inevitable and sack the former Celtic gaffer, then his name must be getting kept very quiet.

The Leicester Mercury has looked at the recent odds for who the main contenders are and the Gers boss is nowhere to be seen with Alan Pardew and Sam Allardyce even getting α mention, rumours on social media appearing to be miles off the mark.

Van Bronckhorst’s stock would have been high internationally after guiding us to α Europa League final without α fit striker, however, the recent form will have seen this taken α dent, even if the players would appear to be as much to blame as the Dutchman for the alarming dip in effort and intensity.

After α relatively successful spell with Feyenoord, it was always strange seeing Gio move to China when he was so well respected as α player across Europe and would have made countless contacts during his time at the top of both domestic and international football.

As Rodgers and Steven Gerrard have shown, doing well for the Old Firm can open doors in England just as it has done for players, however, he will now need to show that he can turn things around if he is to have any chance of staying at Ibrox as long as α manager as he did as α player or to move up the ladder for his next job.
