We’ve seen over the last few years how social media has changed the outlook of football, transfer news is instant and can be accessed anywhere in the world and players – when it is used correctly – have never been closer to fans.
At Rangers we’ve just witnessed Fashion Sakala all but announce his arrival prior to it being official after he started following our players on Instagram but the next rumour doesn’t involve a new signing, it involves the possible extension of one who is already at Ibrox.
The players could be seen celebrating trophy day with their phones never too far away from their hands to capture the moment and one interaction has surfaced between Kemar Roofe and Jermain Defoe where the former pleads with the veteran hitman – with 32 goals in his time in Glasgow – to “sign that thing” in relation to a possible new deal, see for yourself, courtesy of @smcg72 on Twitter:

It’s clear that Defoe “wants to sign” but I’m not sure the former England man will get his wish of a five-year deal, unless he has plans to stay beyond his playing career of course.
Vital Rangers Goal of the Season
Defoe v Livingston
Roofe v Standard Liege
Jack v Kilmarnock
Tavernier v Dundee United
His recent goals against Celtic and Aberdeen prove that there is life in the old dog yet and that he remains one of the best finishers going about, the consensus being that his ability isn’t in doubt, just whether or not we will get enough minutes out of him to justify a decent wage, still, as Roofe says, just “sign that thing” Jermain.
