“I want to stay forever” – Gers star in contract hint

|

It’s getting ridiculous now isn’t it?

Every time you think that we need to find another striker to take the place of Jermain Defoe, he goes and does something special again.

Yes, we were already 3-0 up when he sat two Aberdeen players down before calm slotting past Joe Lewis but, there is absolutely zero doubt that if Rangers are counter attacking, there is one player in the squad that you would want to finish off the move and the 38-year old proved again that he is still one of the best finishers in the country.

He has seven goals and two assists in his 20 appearances this season, maybe not that impressive until you realise he is currently on a rate of a goal every 90 minutes, ridiculous for a player who rarely starts and is in and out of the team.

If you asked me in January whether or not Defoe would be around next season I’d have said “no chance!”, however, his goals against Celtic and Aberdeen perfectly demonstrated that there is life in the old dog yet and, as reported by The Daily Record, it’s clear where the former England man sees his future:

“I want to stay here forever. I love it here. Everyone knows it’s special.

“When I spoke to the manager when I was coming here, the first thing he said is ‘you will love it here.’

“I’ve loved every minute, it’s been fantastic. I’m lost for words, it’s amazing.”

There have been initial talks but we have also been linked with other strikers, personally though, if we go into next season with the same four forwards I’d be perfectly happy, especially with the likes of Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield, Scott Wright and Fashion Sakala to support them.
