Despite having six on the books for next season, Rangers have been linked with another centre-half, this time, towering Dutch stopper Danilho Doekhi.

The 22-year old Vitesse Arnhem defender has been in fine form this season and according to a report in Football Insider, Steven Gerrard is eyeing up a possible summer move.

Doekhi is said to be available for just £1.5million despite being capped at Under-21 level, the reason for this is that his contract expires in the summer of 2022 having signed a four year deal in 2018 when he moved from Ajax’s much vaunted academy.

After speculation linking Rangers with Joseph Okumu of Elfsborg as a potential replacement for Filip Helander – who has been attracting interest from the Premier League – seeing another promising centre-half with a good pedigree rumoured to be getting watched poses a few questions.

Six central defenders just doesn’t go into two, George Edmundson’s time at Ibrox would appear to be up given his indiscretion earlier in the season and Nikola Katic will need to go out on loan to get the game time he needs to continue his rehabilitation, however, as reluctant as we would be to see them go, Connor Goldson and Helander are both at a cross roads in terms of their respective Rangers careers.

Goldson is being tipped to sign a new contract but the big Swede is coming up to the last couple of years of his deal too, if we are to sell him, this summer would be the time to do it, not that it would make it any easier to accept – especially as a founding member of the Big Fil Fan Club.
