Rangers recruitment plans for next season continue behind the scenes and the most recent name linked with a move to Ibrox is Elfsborg centre-half Joseph Okumu.
The Kenyan international’s name popped up in the Swedish media originally after it was revealed that Filip Helander was attracting interest from the Premier League.
Speaking to Fotboll Transfers, the 23-year old said of the recent speculation:
“It’s not just about what one side wants, it’s about the bigger picture.
“When the time is right, I am sure that I will move on and there will be a mutual agreement between me and Elfsborg. If it’s not the right time, then I’ll stay.
“I can not say any specific country or league. It all depends on which bids come, and it is only then that I will have to decide what suits my playing style best. I hope to play in one of the top 5 leagues in Europe.”
Ahh, the old “top five league” patter, we might not play in one of the best leagues but you can guarantee that most players would be seduced by our elite level stadium, training ground, manager and of course the opportunity to compete in the Champions League – our continental reputation well and truly restored by the efforts of Steven Gerrard and his team.
Vital Rangers Player of the Year 2020/21
It my be that we have watched Okumu to consider him as one of many, if Helander does go he will leave a huge whole in the heart of the defence and a level of consistency that few can match, our form in his four month absence last season is testament to that.
