One of the key reasons Rangers managers to get the Scottish Premiership title wrapped up in record time was because of the squad assembled by Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard and the fact that it was put together before the season started.

With Jack Simpson, Scott Wright and Nnamdi Ofoborh already signed alongside Steven Davis, Allan McGregor, Leon Balogun and James Tavernier extending their contracts, the squad is already taking shape as the Light Blues look to successfully defend their crown, however, further reinforcements are being lined up.

It doesn’t look as if Jermain Defoe is going to get his wish of being around long enough to play in front of a packed Ibrox again which means that there is going to be space for another striker to arrive and if a recent report in The Daily Record is to believed, it looks like Fashion Sakala – who Vital Rangers reported on some months ago – is in “advanced talks” to replace him.

The Oostende forward has 13 goals in 28 appearances in Belgium this season, after a blistering start his goals have dried up a little recently, however, he can be forgiven for being a little distracted if he knows where his next move will be.

Capable of playing either as a central striker or in a wider position, his flexibility is perfect for the way that Rangers currently set up and even if, in the worst case scenario, Alfredo Morelos leaves, we would still have plenty of goals in the squad.

Sakala is available on a free contract too which makes the £2.25million rated forward an even more attractive proposition, if we can get the deal done early it would be another master stroke from Wilson, having as many players as possible available for the start of pre-season and for the Champions League qualifiers is vital if we are to give ourselves a realistic shot at making the group stages.
