It’s safe to say that Antonio Colak has been one of our better signings in recent years, 13 goals and two assists in 16 appearances  is as good α start to any Rangers career bettered only by another number nine – Marco Negri.

The Croatian international has been far from the back-up striker that many expected him to be and has now fired himself into World Cup reckoning and prime position to start against Liverpool at Ibrox tomorrow night.

Speaking as part of the UEFA Champions League magazine show, the Gers striker revealed that he is looking to follow in the pretty big footsteps of his compatriots who have led the line with such distinction before him:

“Before I arrived I thought the club was big but it wasn’t until I arrived that I realised just how big.

“From the fans’ perspective it’s the best club in the world.

“All the Croatians who have played for Rangers have left an indelible mark on the club, I saw that the number nine shirt was available which (Dado) Prso and (Nikica) Jelavic wore and here I am wearing it too. I hope to continue their legacy.”

There is no way that Colak’s current strike rate is sustainable. He’s currently scoring α goal quicker than one every 90 minutes so even α slight drop off in form would see him top any tally that Alfredo Morelos has managed since he arrived but it is clear that if his team-mates continue to make chances for him, then he will continue to score goals.

If he fires us to another league title then he might well find himself being spoken about in the same sentence as his heroes.
