Rangers haven’t spent a lot of money in recent years, the fees for Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Kemar Roofe and, of course, Ryan Kent, the biggest outlays so, when £5million was agreed to secure the services of Ridvan Yilmaz, more than a few eyebrows were raised.

Calvin Bassey left a considerable hole in the Rangers defence, however, he also brought in a sizeable fee. Ross Wilson did have money available to secure his top target and it would appear that the Turkey international was exactly that.

The problem has been that Borna Barisic is, arguably, enjoying his best form since signing for Rangers and Ridvan has only been seen on a few occasions – in fairness though, he has looked like he has something different to offer in terms of ball carrying and passing in the final third.

It’s a lot of money for a player to be sat on the bench and it would appear that he is already being lined up for a return home with Galatasaray “monitoring” the former Besiktas full-back, according to a report in The Daily Express.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has spoken highly of the 21-year old and that he is now looking more settled at the club, there are a lot of games coming up and it would be a surprise to see Barisic start them all.

On a five-year contract, Ridvan is here for the long-term, there is no rush to have him playing every week or to get rid of him when Barisic is playing well.

Games like the one against St Mirren at Ibrox at the weekend are the sort of fixtures that we should be seeing him in though, especially with Ben Davies looking like he has solved the left-sided centre-half issue – his time will come, he just needs to be ready when it does.
