Despite gaining promotion to the Championship, Peterborough United will have to sell at least one of their main men, it’s just the transfer model that they operate with and the reason they are such a yo-yo club.

Rangers have been linked with both Siriki Dembele and Jonson Clarke-Harris this season, the two main protagonists in what has been a successful campaign.

Director of football Barry Fry confirmed earlier in the season that scouts have been in attendance at their games with 12-goal Dembele first on the radar but as yet, no concrete offers have been made:

“Rangers have watched Siriki twice as have the Scottish national side. Newcastle manager Steve Bruce watched him at Crewe when he didn’t play well.

“There will always be interest in players like Siriki, but we don’t have to sell him. We have him for another 18 months and we’d rather he stayed until the summer when we can reassess his situation.”

This was before the winter window opened, however, since then, Dembele has refused to sign a new contract and looks to be for the off, however, it is Fry’s latest statement, as told to This is Futbol, that has given hope of a move for their 33-goal talisman, Clarke-Harris:

“Without divulging, the player’s not on a fortune. At our level, you don’t get a fortune and at Peterborough, you don’t get a fortune.

“Throughout the last 25 years, we’ve put players in there, we’ve developed players, and the owners have put so much in, and it’s my job to sell a player to offset the losses.”

We might not be able to compete with most Premier League clubs in terms of wages but we can with England’s lower tiers, there is no doubt that Clarke-Harris will be in-demand given his form last season but the lure of Champions League football could be enough to tempt a player making his last big move to head north.
