New Kelty Hearts boss Kevin Thomson has sent out a signal of intent with the capture of Jamie Barjonas from Rangers.

The League 2 side are building up a head of head of stream and gathering momentum ahead of pre-season, having already confirmed the signings of Joe Cardle and Jordon Foster.

Barjonas was trusted enough to be part of Steven Gerrard’s wider squad but he never quite made the breakthrough that he seemed caable of, in flashes.

Last pre-season, the 22-year old scored a fine late goal in Rangers 0-2 win over Nice in the Veola Trophy, held in Lyon.

It suggested that he could make an impact, but unfornately that never materialised.

Barjonas’ often featured on the bench in Rangers Europa League games in filling the home grown quota but that is where his involvement ended.

In the second half of last season, the player made a move to Ayr United and played four games in the Scottish Championship.

Barjonas now makes the drop to League 2 where his talent should shine and he will be expected to be a Kelty regular.

This could be a case of taking one step back, to make a big leap forward in terms of regular first team football and career development.

In Kevin Thomson, he has a manager who knows all about him and that understanding will be mutual.

Kelty Hearts will not just be making up the numbers in the Scottish fourth tier next season, that is for sure.
