How times have changed.

A few years ago potential targets wouldn’t have given Rangers a second glance if they had the option of joining a Premier League side, now, with stability off the pitch and success on it, we can compete with all but the biggest clubs in the English top flight.

The latest player tipped to “snub” the riches of the Premier League is Jonson Clarke-Harris, with the 31-goal Peterborough United striker being linked with a move to Ibrox, something Gabriel Agbonlahor believes would be too good to turn down if he gets the offer, in an interview with Football Insider.

When asked if Rangers would be a more exciting prospect than potentially playing in one of the richest leagues in the world, he said:

“100 per cent.

“With the chance of maybe playing in the Champions League next season. You back Steven Gerrard to get them through the qualifying stages and into the Champions League.

“Definitely Rangers. Sheffield United are a good club and will be one of the favourites to come back up but what Steven Gerrard’s doing at Rangers is amazing.

“For sure, it’s a project that a lot of players will want to go and be a part of.”

There is no doubt that as well as restoring success to the club, Steven Gerrard has restored our reputation. Making the last 16 of the Europa League is always going to make players sit up and take notice, even more so if we can qualify for the group stages of the Champions League.

It’s always easier to attract players when you are on top rather than rebuilding and we are in that position now, plus, who wouldn’t want to play for a gaffer who his a legend in, not just British, but world football?
