Whenever a manager leaves for a new club, for the next few months, players at their old one are continuously linked with a reunion and, when Steven Gerrard left Rangers for Aston Villa, it was inevitable that exactly the same would happen.

Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo were both rumoured to be targeted but have moved on without so much as a peep from the Midlands outfit, that they have joined clubs of similar if not bigger stature suggests that scouts are certainly aware of their ability to operate at a consistently higher level than the Scottish Premiership.

Several other players have been tipped for moves with Glen Kamara and Ryan Kent the most likely and it is the latter that has once again had his name mentioned after a potential deal for the Premier League side fell through.

Ismaila Sarr of Watford was set for a £25million move, however, it has collapsed and with Gerrard on the lookout for a winger, naturally, Kent’s name has been mentioned once again.

The 25-year old is out of contract at the end of the season and, unlike Aribo, Bassey, Kamara and even Alfredo Morelos, we would stand to lose a lot of money were he to leave for free, yes, you could argue that we have got our money’s worth but we really should be making a sizeable profit on such a talent.

Leeds United have seen bids of around the £1om mark rejected according to reports but, with a year less on his deal, that could well be enough to persuade Rangers to part ways.

Seeing him tearing apart the Champions League would, however, be a much more attractive proposition than seeing him walk out the door.
