Alfredo Morelos was in a great position to give himself a chance to start against PSV Eindhoven in midweek, 30 minutes of hard graft against Hibs, holding the ball up, bringing others into the game, exactly what we will need in the Netherlands, however, we all know what happened next.

As it is, Antonio Colak will probably – and deservedly so – start up front, Morelos confined, once again, to the bench as he looks to win back his place, a job becoming harder every week, especially if he is sitting in the stands.

With Kemar Roofe also out, Fashion Sakala remains our only senior striker available although Giovanni van Bronckhorst seems to prefer him out wide, and even then he’s not come off the bench this season.

One other option is Zak Lovelace, as urged by media partner Heart and Hand..

He might just be 16-years old but he shares a physicality with another teen striker who burst onto the scene when circumstances gave him his chance – Wayne Rooney. If anything, Lovelace is more Olympic sprinter than middleweight boxer when it comes to a comparison in build but it gives him just as good a chance of holding his own against more senior opposition.

The other attribute is that he knows where the goal is, another hat-trick at the weekend has seen calls for him to be promoted to provide cover on the bench and why not? Leon King made his debut at 16-years old and is now a genuine part of the manager’s plans.

We will have to replace Morelos one day, so why not start the preparations this weekend?
