Most of the Rangers first-team has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, at the last count as many as seven names had been mentioned with most of the rumours being guesswork.

As Gerrard’s transfer business has shown since he joined Villa, he is operating in an entirely different market to the one he shopped in at Ibrox, however, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, there is one player who he is keen on being reunited with, as told to GiveMeSport:

“I was told when I was out in Seville for the Europa League Final that Joe Aribo was a target for Aston Villa, so that doesn’t surprise me at all. I think he’s the type of young player that Steven Gerrard thinks he can mould and improve.”

If the former Gers gaffer is after Aribo, negotiations shouldn’t take long because he will know exactly what we want for him plus, one of the main reasons we managed to sign the now Nigerian international, was because of Steven Gerrard.

Aribo’s versatility has been highlighted as an attractive attribute for teams in the Premier League, it demonstrates a football intelligence being able to play in several positions and perform well in each one.

At his best Aribo is almost unplayable but that has been his biggest issue since signing from Charlton Athletic, he simply doesn’t have the consistency required to play such a key role for us. That’s not to say he doesn’t contribute or goes missing but it has always been an element that of his game that he needed to improve.

Selling Aribo would give Giovanni van Bronckhorst some decent funds to play with and, for all that the 25-year old would be missed, we could well end up even stronger – hopefully Gerrard adds a few pounds to the final fee, just for old times’ sake.
