Playing against a low block or perhaps more simply, an opposition that is quite happy to have all their players within the width of the posts can be a tricky task, especially when two of your more creative individuals are struggling with form.

Against Motherwell, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo were far from their best, getting into good positions but either lacking with the final ball or failing to work the keeper when shooting opportunities were presented.

Every player can have an off day but with players like Kemar Roofe and Scott Arfield still out injured, they really have to be the players that others can rely on to get the break through, one way or another.

It certainly isn’t any time to panic but it does perhaps highlight why we are hoping to get Scott Wright in from Aberdeen during this window.

Hitting 41 crosses into the box is also unlikely to be a successful tactic unless Cedric Itten is playing from the start, it’s the lazy option and one that I thought we had long seen the back of but the big Swiss international is pushing hard for a starting place should the form of those in front of him continue to disappoint.

There is no reason for Kent and Aribo to be tired having only played one game a week since the turn of the new year, whether we need a tactical tweak or a change in personnel, Steven Gerrard needs to be pro-active rather than hoping that something will change of it’s on accord.
