Rangers appear to have identified a very specific set of targets to bring in over the next six to 12 months with pre-contract agreements for talented youngsters under the age of 24 being lined up.

With the news that Bournemouth pair Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofomorh are set to join Scott Wright in joining the Light Blues, there is a definite pattern emerging, especially in an age where money is tight and profit through player sales is an area we have to improve.

We have a well connected recruitment team and coaching staff and one player who could be on our radar is Izzy Brown, the Chelsea midfielder.

The England youth cap is too good for reserve/age group football, as shown by his record with the Blues, and as a result has spent most of his career out on loan at various EFL sides as well as a stint at Vitesse Arnhem.

Capable of playing as a central or attacking midfielder, similar to Joe Aribo, the 24-year old is out of contract in the summer and has spent this season at Sheffield Wednesday, there is, however, rumoured to be interest from Southampton who have a well-oiled recruitment machine.

There is every chance that Michael Beale will have worked with Brown when he was at Chelsea, however, he will undoubtedly have developed considerably since his time in the youth ranks.

It’s a strategy we will have to get used to, unknowns who haven’t made it in the Premier League or EFL players who have shown early promise, if they all turn out to be half as good as Joe Aribo then why change it?
