Steven Gerrard has already admitted that Rangers have begun planning for next season already, looking to take advantage of potential cross border and pre-contract deals.

With the news that Bournemouth pair Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh have already signed for next season, former England keeper, Paul Robinson has been impressed with how the Light Blues don’t appear to be resting on their laurels despite their commanding lead at the top of the Premiership.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said:

“Stevie is building for the future.

“What he is going to achieve this season is amazing, he has done absolutely fantastic up there.

“He is not just planning for now, he is planning for the future. Signing players like the lads will put the club on a good footing.

“The work is going in to put Rangers on a sound footing long-term, he is putting the building blocks in place to make sure that this is not a one season wonder. The foundations are going to be there for this to carry on.”

Robinson is right, being able to sign players to maintain the quality of the squad without breaking the bank is an absolute priority. Players that might not necessarily go straight into the first-team but, like Calvin Bassey, be able to contribute over the course of the season ready to one day step in and play a bigger role.
