Today, Steven Gerrard provided an interesting snapshot of Rangers approach to the January transfer window and how it fits into squad planning.

Speaking to Rangers TV at Friday’s press conference, he was asked about utilising this month’s window and the pre-contract market.

The Gers gaffer responded, “Listen, the recruitment never stops here. We’re always trying to improve and get better.”

“We’re always looking at areas of the squad that we can tweak and change as we keep trying to evolve.”

“We are always looking further down the line, we try to be one or two windows ahead to identify the right players that can help us to move forward.”

“We are all on the same page, from Ross (Wilson), to the recruitment staff, to myself and the work never stops in terms of striving to get better.”

There will be times that transfer activity and speculation is played down by Gerrard in the public glare of the media, but there is work going on behind the scenes and some business is anticipated this month.

Gerrard also stated today that there are no further developments on the proposed Scott Wright move as negotiations with Aberdeen appear to have reached an impasse, at present.

He did state, “what I will say is that we are making inroads (on transfer activity), we are actively trying to improve the group. Not just for now, but for the future – come the Summer, but I won’t be mentioning any names or elaborating further on that.”

VitalRangers sees those words as a clear indication that there will be late action in this transfer window at Ibrox.
