Giovanni van Bronckhorst made sure that Antonio Colak would be settled in his Rangers team with the striker grabbing a timely first goal against Spurs on Saturday.

The powerful frontman has been very prominent throughout pre-season, starting in all of the games up to now, including Sunderland, Blackpool and West Ham.

Prior to that he had already been in camp with PAOK and had played with the Greeks in one of their first warm-up fixtures so the Croatian international is not lacking in fitness. Further sharpness is likely to follow with more familiarity to his new teammates and vice-versa and he won’t have long to wait for progress.

The injury situation with Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe has presented Colak with an importance and a responsibility to lead the line and be the focal point of the Gers attack, an early but welcome challenge for the new signing.

It has great to see him get off the mark on Saturday as acknowledged by Gio who declared himself very content with his player:

“It’s always important for your strikers to score. I think he had the most minutes in pre-season with us, but also with PAOK when he was there.”

“He’s very fit and ready for next week. We’re happy we have him ready and are working hard to get the other strikers fit as well as soon as possible.”

Introduction

Colak is more or less, a certain starter at Livingston next week.

At present, the only other options as the main central striker are Fashion Jnr and Malik Tillman. Neither of which have played a significant part in preparations to date, for different reasons.

A few Rangers players including Antonio Colak will make their Scottish Premiership debuts next week but the environment won’t bring many surprises. A tricky opponent in Davie Martindale’s Livingston team will be fired up to present difficulty to the visitors but backed by a noisy majority of the supporters in the Almondvale ground, the boys in blue should be primed to start the season with a resounding win.
