An intriguing new link has emerged on Friday crediting Rangers with an interest in Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone.

The 24-year old is now in the last year of his deal at the Molineux Stadium, having spent the last couple of seasons on loan in Serie A and La Liga.

Now, Rangers are said to be one of two clubs ‘ahead of everyone’ to secure Cutrone, with plenty of interest in the one cap Italy international.

The report from Calcio Mercato stated:

“It is Glasgow Rangers and  Celta Vigo  who are in the lead to win the former Milan player. The move to Spain, in particular, would be permanent and would represent an important turning point for Cutrone’s career.”

“The return to La Liga of the blue bomber can become a reality in this transfer market session.”

Pedigree

With a CV consisting of AC Milan, Wolves, Fiorentina, Valencia and Empoli, it is clear that Patrick Cutrone is a high level operator, although things haven’t worked out for him in the Premier League.

With a return of three goals in 28 appearances for Empoli last season, his strike rate isn’t the most impressive but his other qualities in leading the line have been apparent and as mentioned by Calcio Mercato, there are Italian clubs monitoring his situation.

Wolves manager Bruno Lage recently threw down the gauntlet to Cutrone, seeking to inspire him to prove himself in what appears to be his last chance for Wolves in this pre-season period – with a recent impact reported:

“If you want to change something it’s not the change I give to you in training and in games. The people, you never play here and you have a song. They’re waiting for you’. It’s true, right?! Go there and show something for the people, that’s the job.”

If this interest from Ibrox is confirmed, it adds to an exciting build-up to the competitive season with the signal that more firepower is wanted by Gio van Bronckhorst.
