Transfer windows are very much a battle of the sources, as we know very little – if anything – escapes from the four walls of the Rangers recruitment office, however, there is the odd occasion when rumours are leaked from other parties.

Despite The Rangers Review claiming that we are not interested in a move for Stoke City’s Josh Tymon, there are still claims that we are interested in the full-back on the proviso that either Calvin Bassey or Borna Barisic were to leave.

After a good campaign and being under a long-term contract, Tymon won’t come cheap if he is being eyed as a replacement, as reported by Football Insider:

“A Rangers source has told Football Insider that Stoke are unwilling to sell the 23-year-old and, as a result, have priced him at a prohibitive £6million.

“Stoke’s price tag is based on Tymon’s consistent high standard as well as the fact he penned a contract extension last November that ties him to the club until the summer of 2025.

“Rangers are eyeing Tymon as a potential replacement for Calvin Bassey or Borna Barisic, one of whom could leave this summer.”

Tymon ticks a lot of boxes in terms of being a Rangers full-back, his athleticism is matched with his ability and comfort in possession, an asset that will have attracted him to our scouts in the first place.

The fee is a lot of money though and one that seems highly unlikely for a player of his position even if we were to sell Bassey for a Scottish record transfer fee, I’d be more inclined to save it, allocate it elsewhere and then use Leon King as a back-up in the role to get him more minutes.

With Barisic said to be attracting interest from Trabzonspor, a move for Tymon or someone similar would depend on how much we get for the Croatian international – at the moment though, it’s all ifs, buts and maybes.
