Rangers will have to cast their transfer net far and wide nowadays looking for post-Brexit bargains and last summer was no different with Vital Rangers exclusively revealing our interest in a couple of Colombian prospects.

One of them, Fabian Angel, looks to have made his big move if a report from a journalist in his homeland is accurate.

Pipe Sierra of WinSportsTV – you may recognise the name from the occasional Alfredo Morelos interview – has claimed that Angel is to leave current side Junior FC to join Newell’s Old Boys, the former stomping ground of a certain Lionel Messi in his formative years.

River Plate were also said to be interested which gives an idea of the network we have now built up, even if Andy Scoulding does leave a big hole in the recruitment team by going to Spurs this summer.

At the time, we were on the lookout for a number six and a number eight and, to be honest, not much has changed since – James Sands has come in and so has John Lundstram but you’d probably class them as not quite being more versatile than specialists in one position in the way that Ryan Jack is.

Angel is tipped for the Colombian national team and with his move up the footballing ladder he will probably get his chance, instantly pricing us out of any potential transfer.

Getting players with this sort of profile isn’t easy and it may be that the groundwork has been done behind the scenes to see if a work permit would be issued before making any bids as Angel joins the list of names to keep an eye on over the next few years.
