At the Rangers press conference yesterday, manager Steven Gerrard showed positive vibes in regard to imminent transfer activity.

The manager’s tone and choice of language was undoubtedly positive but just stopped short of giving anything away.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s game against Hibs at Easter Road, Gerrard was a little less guarded than usual indicating that activity will be forthcoming before the current window closes over the weekend.

After the Scott Wright pre-contract was confirmed earlier this week, Gerrard responded when quizzed on the possibility of striking a deal to land the player now.

He said, ” We’re not in control of that. We’re really pleased and delighted to get Scott signed up and we’re looking forward to welcoming him with open arms, come the Summer.”

“He’s a really good player at a good age, Aberdeen and Derek (McInnes) have done a good job in terms of his development and where he is at.”

“We’re hoping to keep pushing in that direction when he joins us in the Summer.”

“It would be a bonus if we could get it done now but we don’t control that and it’s in Aberdeen’s court so we respect that.”

The boss then went on to divulge the teaser in terms of what is likely to follow over the next few days, when asked about other activity.

He spoke of the ‘fantastic opportunity’ given to Glenn Middleton by Calum Davidson to go on loan to St Johnstone then without being prompted, spoke further.

“We’re hoping to have some more news in the coming days about certain situations that we’ve been looking into but at the moment I can’t really give you any more on that.”

With the fresh update on Bournemouth pair Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh, this could well be the situation that Gerrard alluded to.

There is still an expectation that at a couple more players will leave Ibrox on loan, at least. with the likes of Greg Stewart and Jordan Jones appearing surplus to requirements.
