If there is one signing I want us to get done in this window, it is that of Siriki Dembele of Peterborough United, if, of course, reports of our interest are accurate.

Vital Rangers has already given the lowdown on the forward where a comparison with Ryan Kent and Kemar Roofe paints a picture of a well-balanced and dynamic front three capable of causing defences all sorts of problems.

The 24-year old has handed in a transfer request at the League 1 side but with Sheffield United joining Fulham and Nottingham Forest in the hunt for his signature, we would face a decent fight to get any deal over the line.

Forest have in fact already bid for Dembele – who is eligible to play for Scotland – but this was rejected out of hand with the Championship club offering just £250,000 and a loan-to-buy deal, something that didn’t go down well with Barry Fry.

Rangers have already signed Scott Wright, who has a similar profile to Dembele, but this doesn’t mean that recruitment in the forward department is over, Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker continue to offer very little, Greg Stewart is out of contract and there is every chance that Alfredo Morelos will be gone in the summer.

With less than a week to go before the window “slams” shut, Rangers will have to move fast if they want to bring in a player who came through the youth systems at Dundee and Ayr United, however, there is every chance that we could enhance the quality of the squad and still be in profit – if Ross Wilson is as good as we all think he is.
