Rangers fans still face a nervous wait to see if Connor Goldson is going to extend his contract but one potential replacement has revealed that a move to Ibrox is certainly one he would consider if he is given the chance.

Elfsborg’s Danilho Doekhi has been linked with a move to Glasgow for some time now and early reports suggested that we were frontrunners for his signature, as confirmed by Dutch media outlet De Gelderlander:

“Rangers are set to offer Danilho Doekhi a three-year contract, according to reports in the Netherlands.

“And Dutch paper De Gelderlander say Rangers want to take him to Glasgow and are favourites to get his signature if he is allowed to move in the summer.”

Doekhi, at 6ft 3inches tall, certainly carries the same physical presence as the Gers vice-captain and has a similar love of playing out from the back and, again through De Gelderlander via The Daily Record, the Vitesse Arnhem centre-half gave an update on his current situation:

“I can’t do anything with it now. All my business runs through my manager, but if something is serious, I will seriously think about it.

“In recent months, various clubs have shown interest, but nothing has been concrete so far.

“Or clubs have come forward that I do not see as the best next step in this phase of my career. If there is nothing, then I have to focus on Vitesse. That is what I am doing now. If there is no dream club, or transfer, then that may be disappointing.

“But I will not get stuck in that. Vitesse do not have to fear anything.

“I have to be there on the field, regardless of any transfer problems. If I don’t perform, I’ll have myself to blame.”

Doekhi is in the last 12-months of his current contract so would represent a great value-for-money option should we need to replace anyone in the middle of defence, if anything, he would be an upgrade on a few that we already have, the lord giveth on one hand, but taketh away with the other – or something like that…

Which new signing are you most excited to see next season?
