Rangers biggest signing of the summer could yet be the extension of one of Steven Gerrard’s most trusted players.

Connor Goldson is now into the last 12-months of his contract at Ibrox and would be a difficult figure to replace should the worst come to the worst, and one man who has urged his former club to get the vice-captain signed up as soon as possible is ex-Gers gaffer, Alex McLeish, as told to Ibrox News:

“I totally agree, they have to do that.

“They can’t waste any time on that. I’m sure that the agents would be on the front foot for tying him down, because he has been exceptional.

“The defence was pivotal to the Championship win, it looks as though Goldson loves playing for Rangers so I can’t see him going elsewhere.

“If they tied him down now, it just needs to be tweaked a little bit.”

It’s the elephant in the room at Auchenhowie just now, there has been nothing on the situation since April when it was believed that the 28-year old was close to extending his deal and that talks with Glen Kamara were also under way.

Will Goldson extend his Rangers contract?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Goldson owes us nothing, yes we gave him a chance to restore his reputation following his well documented heart surgery but he has more than repaid us, however, even if he committed for just one more year it would at least provide the club with some protection in terms of a potential transfer fee.

McLeish is right though, with a settled squad and no rush to bring in reinforcements, this should be the number one priority for Ross Wilson, he’s a man with persuasive powers, hopefully he can work his magic and seal the deal.
