Connor Goldson missed not a single minute of competitive action last season for Rangers, given the demands of professional football and the fixture congestion caused by Covid-19, that is some achievement.

Even more impressive is that his performance levels never dropped which would make replacing the 28-year old even harder were he to leave.

With just 12 months left on his current deal, persuading him to sign an extension is at the very top of Ross Wilson’s “to do” list and, according to Football Insider, we could be set for some good news:

“Rangers are confident Connor Goldson will agree a new contract before the transfer window shuts.

“The 28-year-old has held talks over a new deal with the club as they look to tie him down beyond his current agreement’s expiration in May 2022.

“Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that a new and improved three-year agreement was close in April before negotiations stalled but there is still an expectation a deal will be finalised.”

Vital Rangers has long thought that the vice-captain was heading back down to the Premier League given how early the league was won and the time that has lapsed where an agreement could have been reached.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

There has been interest from England before and with a forward thinking approach to squad management, he surely would be for the off if he doesn’t commit his future at Ibrox.

Without jumping the gun, this will be as good as any signing we make this summer – if the club’s confidence is matched by Goldson’s desire to stick around.
