Right then Mr Goldson, now that you have got your wedding out the way – congratulations and all that – time to sort out the important stuff and get a different type of contract signed.

With just 12 months left on his Rangers deal, Steven Gerrard’s trusted lieutenant and vice captain is starting to give a few of us with the Light Blues at heart sleepless nights – a player who played every minute of every game last season could be about to leave.

That is the necessary evil that we have to accept and is the way in which our club operates now, we simply can’t afford to allow players who are worth several million pounds to leave for nothing at the end of their contracts.

Only this week we have seen Joe Worrall again linked with a £10million move to the Premier League, yes, he is a few years younger but we have seen both of them at close quarters and there is only one of them I’d value at that sort of figure, I’m just surprised that teams haven’t looked slightly further north already.

Who finished as Rangers top goal scorer this season?

We have been linked with centre-halves already, Danilho Doekhi and Joseph Okumu are in a similar position to Goldson in that they both have a year left at Vitesse and Elfsborg respectively, however, they are still in the early stages of their careers, they do though have the physicality to replace the Englishman with each of them standing around the 6ft 4 mark.

We’ll let Goldson have his honeymoon in peace but if nothing is announced by July or before the squad returns for pre-season training, then we really need to start panicking, and Ross Wilson needs to get his phone and cheque book out.
