We all love a transfer saga don’t we?

At one point we were favourites, then it looked as though he was away to Italy and now – it would appear – that we are back in the hunt for Joey Veerman with Rangers, reportedly, having made an initial offer for the Dutch youth cap.

Speaking to Voetbalprimeur his captain at Heerenveen, Henk Veerman, is resigned to losing their star player, and isn’t happy at the thought of losing a midfielder who scored seven goals and created 10 assists in the Eredivisie last season:

“I’ve read things about Atalanta, Rangers, PSV, Ajax and AZ.

“I expect him to go to one of those clubs. I also think that Joey will add value for any club in the Netherlands.

”If things change enormously (at the club). That is a serious problem for me.”

The original story linking Rangers with Veerman came from the Netherlands so there could be some truth in it, again, the report that we have made a bid for the 22-year old also came from his homeland.

We, as the Heerenveen skipper says, face tough competition if we are to sign the midfielder with top clubs in the Netherlands and Serie A all keeping tabs on the situation, getting in early could be the key to getting a deal done.

Which new signing are you most excited to see next season?

Our first “bid” is likely to be rejected given that it is less than Verona were said to have offered, however, in Ross Wilson we have a sporting director that we can trust to get the best possible deal for the club, it’s early days, but there’s no smoke without fire and all that.
