One of Steven Gerrard’s best decisions when he took over as Rangers manager was to add players to his squad who knew what it meant to play for the club.

Allan McGregor and Steven Davis played pivotal roles in our title winning season, as did Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack – who was already at the club – they returned a mentality to Ibrox that had been missing for years.

It’s part of the reason why we will always be linked with players who are Rangers fans, especially if we have tried to get them before, and one such player who, as reported by Vital Rangers, would one day love to pull on the famous Light Blue shirt is Norwich City’s Kenny McLean:

“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t something I’d want to do.

“As a kid that’s what you want to do, play for your boyhood team.

“Right now, I’m about to play in the Premier League again, so I’m not thinking about it!

“But for me and my family, it would be pretty special.”

In his interview with The Athletic, the Scotland international reveals that a move back to Scotland is certainly something he would consider but with two years left on his current deal and a season in the Premier League on the horizon, now wouldn’t be the time.

However, with Arfield soon to turn 33-years old and into the last 12-months of his Rangers contract, next summer might well be the time to entertain giving McLean the chance to make his dream move, yes, he would cost a fee, but it wouldn’t be a fortune.

It would also be the type of signing that is almost risk free, the player knows the league, the opposition, and what the demands are at Rangers, similar to when Arfield himself returned to Scotland, Ross Wilson will always have a list of names for each position to make sure that success is maintained and – if the price is right – McLean is one that is a no brainer.
