That was the view of Adam Thornton of Heart and Hand podcast, who continues to sing the praises of the Rangers youngster.
The tactical analysis specialist ran the rule over Kelly highlighting several areas of strength as well as something of a comparison to the output of Ibrox stalwart, Steven Davis.
This is me getting on the Stephen Kelly hype train π
We have to take into account the team heβs playing and that this comparison includes all centre mids in 25 leagues around the world, but:
Reads the game well β
Loves a tackle β
Promising passing range β

Following his strong showing in the practice match against Partick, Kelly is reaping the rewards of successful loan spells at Ayr United and Ross County – especially last season under John Hughes in Dingwall where he was tasked with more responsibility on the ball.
In the coming weeks, there will be likely loan departures from Ibrox but the 21-year old should not be one of them – he is ready and able to contribute now.
After more than 50 senior games under his belt, he can be progressed further in the mould of Phil Foden at Man City under the watch of Guardiola, learning from the best around him at close quarters and being given game time along the way.
Steven Davis’ influence can and will show on Kelly, who is showing some similar features, especially from a deep starting position.
His immediate future is a very interesting one but Stephen Kelly can play a role in Steven Gerrard’s first team squad this season.
